The Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area (BDA) and Beijing Biodiversity Conservation Research Center launched the first regional biodiversity survey in Beijing on May 22.

After more than five months of investigating, over 100 species of wild birds have been recorded in Beijing E-Town.

A total of 118 species of birds have been monitored. They are distributed in 16 orders, 39 families and 72 genera.

These birds can be mainly divided into resident birds, summer migratory birds and some winter migratory birds.

They also cover six categories of bird species, including raptors, songbirds, land birds, climbing birds, wading birds and swimming birds.

Some of the area's national first-class protected birds include the saker falcon, great bustard and oriental white stork, while national second-class protected birds include the great buzzard, eagle owl, black-winged kite, red-footed falcon, and kestrel.

Among these birds, one species is rated by the IUCN (the International Union for Conservation of Nature) as Near Threatened (NT), one species as vulnerable (VU), and one species as endangered.
