New achievements in Beijing E-Town win International gold award

Updated: 2022-07-04

The Autonomous Mobile Operating Platform Using Active Multi-modal Fusion project from Beijing E-Town won a gold medal at the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in 2022, the world's largest innovation exhibition.

The project was completed by a team led by Li Jun, director of the National Innovation Center of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles.

Making breakthroughs in multi-sensor fusion technology, the technology enables autonomous vehicles to "see" obstacles 300 meters away, with a positioning accuracy of 1 cm.

As a national innovation center in Beijing E-Town, the National Innovation Center of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles acts as a core think tank for the intelligent connected vehicles industry, a general technology research and development center, a public platform for innovation services, an innovation ecological collaboration platform, and an achievement transformation base.

It took four years for the project team to complete this independent research and development.

Autonomous vehicles obtain road condition information by using sensors, such as on-board lidar, on-board images, and millimeter-wave radar.

In 2016, Li proposed the "integrated development strategy of smart city, intelligent transportation, and intelligent vehicle integration", and began to lead the team to carry out technical research two years later.

"Now, the core technology of this R&D project has been applied in Didi, Meituan, many automakers, and road testing institutions. Next, we will further promote the technological breakthrough and large-scale application of the project in 'vehicle-road collaboration'," said Zhang Xinyu, a core member of the project team.
